Annual Meeting and Luncheon

Presentation: “Wisconsin’s Agricultural Research Stations – Where Great Ideas Grow”
Speaker: Mike Peters has served as the director of the Agricultural Research Stations for the past eight years. In his 20 years with the University of Wisconsin-Madison he has served in various agricultural research and compliance roles. He helps scientists and students succeed and his personal mission is to guarantee agricultural research receives the tender loving care needed to ensure that UW is a continual leader in feeding the world.
Garden Party
Time: June 11, 2025, from 4 to 7 PM
Location: Allen Centennial Garden, 620 Babcock Drive, Madison, Wisconsin
Speaker: Curt Lauderdale from CALS Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs
Demeter’s annual garden party is always a fun time to catch up with fellow Demeter members and meet the Allen Centennial Garden team, including interns that Demeter helps support through funding. It’s also a time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and a tasty box dinner.
Demeter West Madison Garden Walk
Time: August 6, 2025 at 5:00 PM
Location: West Madison Agricultural Research Station, 8502 Mineral Point Rd. Verona, WI
Come and Join Janet Hedtcke and our Demeter Summer Intern for a walk around the West Madison Gardens. The flowers should be in full bloom!
You do not need to RSVP, just show up. Please bring your own water since no refreshments or food will be served.
Corn Roast Picnic
Time: September 3, 2025, beginning at 5 PM
Location: Lakeview Park, 6300 Mendota Ave., Middleton, Wisconsin
Join us for an evening filled with fun and fellowship. Meet and learn about the many CALS students who are recipients of scholarships, internships and club support. You’ll also hear from the CALS Dean, Alice in Dairyland, Demeter Education Committee members and the Demeter president. Enjoy the picnic dinner served by an awesome group of Demeter volunteers. This includes the ever-popular hand-picked sweet corn!
Demeter Cranberry Tour
Time: Tuesday, October 7, 2025
Location: Gottschalk Cranberry Farms, 1689 Cranberry Ln, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54495
Join us for a fall adventure to explore cranberry harvesting and the history of Gottschalk Cranberry Farms!
7:45 a.m. – Depart Middleton for the WI Rapids Area.
10:00 a.m. – Walking tour led by Fawn Gottschalk,
featuring cranberry harvesting at their farm.
12:00 p.m. – Box lunches & beverages
12:30 p.m. – Program with Fawn Gottschalk on the history of the farm and their membership with Ocean Spray.
Note: You may need to walk 1/2 to 1/4 mile on gravel or dirt surfaces. Please wear comfotable footwear.
