Bulb Planting at Allen Centennial Garden
Bulb planting at the Garden was started in 2001 as a service to the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Each October volunteers have met for one afternoon to plant bulbs and then enjoy ice cream and conversation at Babcock Dairy Store. We have planted bulbs when the weather cooperated, we have planted when the weather delayed our planting, and one year we had to wait for the bulbs to arrive! Each year different kinds of bulbs are planted in different locations of the Garden. The work goes quickly and as many as 2000 bulbs can be planted in an afternoon by Demeter members with the help of the Garden’s staff. Each spring is an exciting time to visit the garden when the tapestry of bulbs we planted are in bloom!
